Classic Wide Plank Oak hardwood flooring conveys an aura of warmth and cosiness. Its subtle hues and vivid grain patterns tell the story of each year of the oak trees life. The timber of oak flooring is yellowish brown in colour. Sapwood is lighter in colour than heartwood. Timber is coarse textured and grains are clearly visible on the sawn or planed timber. Broad rays produce a silvery grain figure on planed surfaces. Oak frequently forms large diameter branches. The UK is blessed with Oak Flooring in part due to it being a native timber and has a long tradition as a flooring product and also because it is such an attractive timber. We have a large selection of solid oak boards as well as engineered floors on sale in London and throughout UK and can provide standard clear finishes, hand distressed, antique finishes, quarter sawn, rift sawn and board widths up to 350mm wide and lengths up to 6m (made to order).
We use the following grading for most of our products:
'Character Grade' - includes knots and colour variation in the grain.
'Nature Grade' - boards include prime grade and character grade elements to give a more even fleel to the floor.
'Prime Grade' - boards are selected so that only very small knots are showing if any and minimal colour variation.
When buying oak floors look for long lengths as all too often cheap oak floors will have lots of small lengths. Many cheap oak floors are coming from Russia and China are being harvested with no sustainable consideration, see BBC and WWF website. Also look out for quality manufacturing as a delaminated boards and poor kiln drying can be an expensive fault to correct. |
