Bark cloth is not a new discovery; it is the oldest type of fabric known to mankind. The ancient tribes of Africa, Asia, Indonesia and South America, used bark material for loincloths, skirts, draperies, beds and religious ceremonies. Now-a-days the use of bark cloth is dramatically declining, but with these wallcoving we help keep this great tradition alive.
This fibrous wallpaper is cultivated from the Mutuba fig tree from eco-certified farms in Uganda. Only highly skilled bark masters are employed to process and create these special panels. They have the ancient knowledge of debarking the trees and the best beating rhythm to make the fibres soft and supple. Once this has been accomplished the bark is then coloured and dried in the sun. When the cloth is ready, each piece is sewn together by hand, ending up with a patchwork of bark. This truly is a 100% organic product, without any textile agents or other chemicals used.
The joy and exclusiveness of Bark Cloth is that no two panels will ever be identical, your feature wall with truly be one of a kind. Five earthy colour schemes have been created: a combination of dark brown and black pieces, different shades of oranges sewn together, a patchwork of green and brown tints, a series of earth red colours and an almost plain brown palette. Lastly, there is a jet black variant with an extremely fine golden thread worked into it. One thing that is sure with Bark Cloth is that your interior is truly unique! |
